Douglas H. Cooper was a
Mississippian, who was agent of the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations at
the outbreak of the War.
He became colonel of the
first Choctaw and Chickasaw Regiment in the Confederate service,
subsequently becoming a brigadier general. He was in command of
the Confederate forces at the time of the surrender.
After the close of the War
he continued to live in Indian Territory, where he died in 1867.
