William Cary Renfrow
William Cary Renfrow was
born at Smithfield, North Carolina, March 15, 1845. He was
educated in the common schools, but left school to enter the
Confederate Army.
In 1865 he moved to
Arkansas where he lived until the opening of the Oklahoma country to
settlement, when he moved to Norman and engaged in banking. He
served as governor of Oklahoma from May 7, 1893 to May 24,
1897.
Since retiring from office
Governor Renfrow has been largely interested in mining operations in
Southwestern Missouri.
