1856. Graduate Marietta College, 1878. Engaged in
newspaper work. Managing Editor Daily Journal,
Lafayette, Ind. 1878 - 81. Purchased State
Journal, Parkersburg, 1881, remained its head until
1900. Ex- Pres. National Editorial Association.
Politically a Republican. Delegate to Republican
National Convention, 1884, 1888. Collector Internal
Revenue, 1889 - 1893 and 1897 - 1900. Elected Governor
of W. Va. 1900.
