William Richardson

William Richardson, son of William Burpee and Rebecca (Bass) Richardson, was born December 19, 1838, at Sterling, Massachusetts. He received his preparatory education at New Ipswich, New Hampshire, and entered college at the beginning of Freshman year, August 24, 1860.

After graduating, he spent the Fall and Winter of 1864 in the service of the Christian Commission, being connected with the army of the Potomac. In the Spring of 1865, he took charge of the Academy at Westbrook, Connecticut, as Principal, and remained there until the Fall of 1865, when be removed to Muncie, Indiana, where he was appointed Superintendent of Public Schools. In the Fall of 1866, he was appointed Superintendent of Instruction in Piqua, Ohio, where he remained seven years. During his residence here, he was the county school examiner. In 1873 he was elected President of the Ohio Wesleyan Female College, at Delaware, Ohio. After four years of very successful labor in that position, he resigned to accept the position of Superintendent of the Public Schools of Chillicothe, Ohio, where he has remained up to the present time. During his vacations, he has engaged extensively in Normal Institute instruction. He took the degree of Master of Arts in course. 

His religious preferences are Episcopalian. In politics, he is a Republican.

He was married August 14, 1866, to Miss Mary Ellen McLaughlin, of St. Mary's Ohio. They have two children: Charles Le Roy, born November 19, 1867, and William Hart, born January 20, 1878..
