According to family legend, she nursed her family through a chlorea outbreak when she was a child. All her family perished but she lived and went to live with an uncle. This story is unconfirmed. I think her maiden name was Holderfield but this also unconfirmed. She was reported to be short with dark hair and dark eyes. She married Richard Spain sometime in 1870. They had eight children. Richard left sometime in the late 1880s for Texas. When he sent for Sally to join him, she said she hadn't lost anything in Texas and she wasn't going to start now. She stayed in Tennessee. Her husband settled in Parker County, Texas. Several of Sallie's adult children moved to Obion County, Tennessee. Her date of death and place of burial are unknown.
