Elizabeth Mahala Mitchell about 1775 South Carolina Reuben H. Hamby 1801 North Carolina Tennessee "Elizabeth's father's name is William Mitchell and I have been unable to find his wife's, her mother's name. Elizabeth was (not documented) reportedly born in South Carolina about 1775. She married my ancestor, Reuben H. Hamby, son of John, in 1801, in Wilkes County, North Carolina, where both families were farmers and small landowners. William Mitchell travelled with several families, many of them Hambys, to Southeastern Missouri in 1833. Though Elizabeth Mahala and her husband Reuben H. moved to Daddy's Creek in Morgan County, North Carolina in 1855, William Mitchell stayed on in Missouri and I assume at that time his age to be in the 70's. I have been unable to locate any death info on him in Missouri and don't know what county he lived in. I have also hit dead ends in finding how this Mitchell family came to this country. I also lack any information on John Hamby's wife and Reuben's mother, not even a name. Any help with finding my female ancestors would be like finding a pot of gold. Benjamin was from Missouri and was born in about 1878. Margaret shared stories with my mother when she was younger about remembering the plantation in Illinois. The year of Margaret's birth is an assumption based upon the age on Agnes' birth certificate. Margaret could've been born earlier as she had stated numerous times to my mother that she was born in the year of a big snow storm in Illinois and that when she applied for some type of documents, the year was 'guesstimated' due to original records being lost. Any informaion would be helpful." Afrique afrique_love@yahoo.com
