National Personnel Records Center - Military Personnel Records
The repository of millions of military personnel, health, and medical records of discharged and deceased veterans of all services during the 20th century. NPRC (MPR) also stores medical treatment records of retirees from all services, as well as records for dependent and other persons treated at Naval medical facilities. Information from the records is made available upon written request (with signature and date) to the extent allowed by law  Includes instructions and downloadable  for obtaining records.

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) 
The official repository for records of military personnel who have been discharged from the U.S. Air Force, Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard.

Oregon State Archives Military Records
The records of the Military Department held by the Oregon State Archives consist of correspondence, reports, public relations releases, claim files, minutes, bonds, election returns, maps, photographs, enlistment and service records, plans, orders, medical case records, legal case records, muster rolls, rosters, logs, and applications. The Archives Division has records of the Military Department dating from 1847 until 1986.

DEUX-PONTS GERMANS Unsung Heroes of the American Revolution    
Germans helped win - and lose - the Battle of Yorktown, one of the key sites of the American Revolutionary War. Surprised? Don't be. The unlucky Hessians, then in British pay, are quite familiar, but the Zweibruckeners, in French pay, are not. Blame it on the name: the Royal Deux-Ponts infantry is hardly the obvious place to look for German soldiers.
