Class of
1874
AMOS WILLIAM SEAVEY
Another member of the class of 1874 has been cut off when his powers seemed just ripening into higher usefulness, and he seemed but just beginning to fulfill the promise of his early manhood.
Rev. A. W. Seavey
joined the New England Southern Conference immediately after his graduation, and was in the active work of the ministry until his death.
In 1885 he was transferred to the New England Conference, and he was serving his first pastorate within the limits of that Conference when the end came.. He died in Nahant, Mass., January 20,
1886. He was born in Franklin, N. H., March 17, 1849.
He was a thoughtful and attractive preacher, earnest in
his pastoral work, a Christian gentleman in his manners, and much esteemed in his various fields of labor. He was a man of scholarly, habits and literary tastes. Some two years ago he greatly enjoyed a visit to Europe; and after his return he used the fruits of his observation in several popular lectures, which were very entertaining and profitable.
His illness was short. He occupied his pulpit only ten days. before his death, in apparent health; but a severe attack of pneumonia proved speedily fatal. “He was conscious to the last, and his final hours were filled with Christian triumph.”
