The Alabama Genealogical Society, Inc. (AGS)  
The Alabama Genealogical Society, Inc. (AGS) is a nonprofit organization chartered in 1958 to assist and support the research of its members by finding, safeguarding, preserving, and publishing records pertaining to Alabama families and their history. It is the only genealogical society in Alabama that serves all 67 counties.

The Alabama Historical Commission is the state agency charged with safeguarding Alabama’s historic buildings and sites.

Birmingham Historical Society  
Established in 1942, the Birmingham Historical Society's mission is to contribute to the quality of life in Birmingham by preserving, learning from, and celebrating its past while helping to shape its future. The society is a nonprofit organization supported by the generous gifts of its members and patrons.

Jefferson County Historical Commission  
The Jefferson County Historical Commission was established in 1971 by an act of the Alabama Legislature.  In addition to administering the Historic Marker Program, the Commission sponsors publications on Jefferson County history, presents an annual award (the Thomas Jefferson Award) to individuals and groups who have contributed to the understanding of local history or preservation, and works with other organizations and agencies to further the cause of historic preservation and the documentation and protection of the historic resources of the City of Birmingham and Jefferson County.
